“Nothing is politically right that is morally wrong.” -- Daniel O'Connell
When we as humans get into groups, we tend to let our individual ideas and beliefs slide to the group thoughts.
And most often, to negative consequences.
Throughout history, there is example after example of how people let their individual beliefs and morals fade to the way side, as part of the group think.
In all cultures, in all times.
Probably the most famous is the German society under Hitler’s rule.
Individual people would have never done that. But as a group, they did.
The roman catholic church and witch hunts is another example.
Most War is often another example
And it can be a group rioting for one day
To a whole country doing it.
This is what this quote means to me. Because the group think wants it, doesn’t make it morally right, and we as individuals have to make sure we ourselves are doing what is morally right for us. Independent of what the group does.
That is the only way to prevent this from happening. |
