“A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it.” -- Max Planck
I love this quote. But I love all of them, which is why I put them in my newsletter.
One of the hardest things to do is to change people’s beliefs. Most people hate change, and will do everything, including give their life, for their beliefs and to prove their beliefs right.
There is this funny mechanism in all human beings. It is a mechanism that automatically wants to prove themselves right.
How do I know? Have you ever seen someone try and prove themselves wrong?
And often people will go to the point of killing themselves in order to prove themselves right. Often without even knowing it.
I have talked about my beliefs DVD many times. It is a 75 minute presentation I did. It talks all about how our mind is actually designed to prove our current belief systems right to us, even if they don’t serve us, even if they make us unhappy, even if they kill us.
For example, many people get cancer that kills them because of belief systems they have.
Many people get heart disease because of belief systems they have.
Many people end up depressed because of belief systems they have.
The problem is, from our own belief systems, it doesn’t seem like a “belief” it seems like the truth. That it is just they way it is. And so it is these “truths” that we hold that actually cause all our problems in life.
If you are not achieving everything you want in life, you need to look at your beliefs and what you think are your truths. Then Change them.
How do you change your beliefs? A great place to start is my beliefs DVD.
Even if the “truth” is really just the truth and not a belief, and it doesn’t serve you, do you want to believe it? I don’t. I believe what I want, because how your mind works it doesn’t matter what is true and what isn’t true. It only matters what you believe is true and what you believe is not true.
The reality of the truth doesn’t impact you. It is your beliefs about reality that impact you.
So change what you believe to serve you. Not what you believe because it is reality.
For example: Is it true that people will cheat you?
I don’t know, but if it is true, that doesn’t serve me. Because then I will constantly get cheated. But if I believe that people are honest, I will run into more honest people.
All the people who believe that people will cheat you are saying, “if you believe people are honest you are going to get taken advantage of.” They see that because of their belief that people will cheat you. IF they say, consciously only, Ok, I will act as if people are honest, will still get cheated, because they didn’t change the belief.
The trick is believing it as a truth. There are ways to do this. My Beliefs DVD shows you ways of doing exactly this. |
