“Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.” -- Douglas Adams
So many people only learn from the experiences of themselves. From what their own senses tell them.
This can be very limiting.
Your senses lie to you all the time. But yet we believe what they tell us as if it were all true.
Every night the sun does not burrow into the earth and come up out of the earth somewhere else in the morning. This is what our senses tell us, but we don’t believe it.
Our senses tell us that railroad tracks meet in the distance. But yet we know better and don’t believe this.
Your senses are lying to you all the time. But yet we want to believe them as if they are true.
When you can step past your experiences, step past having to see it with your own two eyes, then you can really start to grow. |
