So many people think multi tasking helps them get more done in less time.
It doesn’t.
But don’t take my word for it. Do this simple action step for 3 days, and then see for yourself how you got more done when you were focused.
- Get a count down timer (do not use your clock on the computer, wall, or anything – then you are multi tasking again)
- Set the timer for 30 minutes
- Then focus on one thing and one thing only for those 30 minutes (something important that is important to get done, and not just urgent)
- Do this 2-3 times a day
That is it.
What I do for step number 1 is set a 30 minute reminder in outlook to pop up on my screen. So I just work on my computer for a set time, and when it is up, the reminder pop’s up on my screen.
If you are not working on a computer, then the countdown kitchen timer at any Target or Wal-Mart for $15 will do.
The reason I pick 30 minutes is because many people will have trouble finding more time to do only one thing.
You will eventually work your way up to 90 min- 2 hours. Depending on you.
When you do this for just 2-3 days, you will know for yourself how this helps you get more done in less time. |
