Everyone has heard this expression before. But today I want to put this in a different light.
If you make X amount of dollars, you don’t want people around you making more than the same X dollars.
If you get X days of vacation off a year, you don’t want others around you getting much more than X days of vacation a year.
If your marriage is like X, you don’t want other people around you whose marriage is better than X.
It is like the crabs in a bucket scenario.
And this is true.
If you put one crab in a bucket that it can crawl out of, it will crawl out. But if you put two crabs in a bucket, they will pull each other down and neither one will ever get out of the bucket. If you put more than 2 crabs, same thing. They will pull each other down and neither one will ever get out of the bucket.
Human beings tend to do the same thing to each other. If someone they know starts moving up, they try and pull the person back down into their comfort zone. Even if it is a better thing for the other person. |
