So I realized the other week. With the help of a course in miracles. That we have this ‘self concept’ that we want to live into.
We want other people to see us as this way, in this same self concept.
And the funny part is, no matter how much we have this self concept in our life, it is usually never ‘enough’
For example, I realized that I had a self concept of wanting to be wealthy and seen by others as wealthy. And no matter what I did, it was never enough. No matter how many people saw me as wealthy, it wasn’t enough. It wasn’t enough in my definition of self concept.
Different people have different self concepts that they want reinforced.
Some examples:
Good parent
Intelligent
Funny
Smart
Good business person
Caring
Loving
Cute
Sexy
Etc.
The list goes on and on.
And often, we can have more than one self concept.
And most often, we don’t even realized this is an “idea” that we want reinforced.
It is in our unconscious mind, as it was in mine. Until you realize it. Until you look for it. What is it that you want others to see yourself as.
And often you really have to look. Because it is like water to the fish. You don’t see it because it is just there.
You are a slave to this self concept. It drives your life and decisions unconsciously.
So become aware of your self concepts that you want reinforced. And often, they will melt away and no longer control you just by observing them at work. |
