Responsibility and Guilt

So I have known for a long time, the secret to happiness, health, wealth, and anything else you want in life, is taking full responsibility for everything that happens to you in life.

And for the longest time, I have been perplexed why people are not willing to do this, even when they know this.

I finally had an insight as to why a lot of people do not want to take full responsibility for their life.

Because when you take full responsibility, it often means a ton of guilt comes with it.

Because what we tend to do as humans with egos is project our guilt onto other people. Other people are wrong, are to blame. We are the innocent victims in life who did no wrong.

And if you take full responsibility, then people often start to then project that guilt onto them, and what they did wrong, and all the places they “failed”.

But now that you know this, you don’t have to fall victim to this.

What does responsible mean?

Response -- Able.
You are able to respond.

It doesn’t mean you “caused” what you have or experienced. It just means you take full ability to respond, no matter what happened or who is “at cause”.

In fact, it is realizing, it doesn’t even matter who is at “cause” because you are able to respond.

So what does being 100% responsible look like?

It means you never say things like (and if you do, you quickly change them)
It’s not my fault.
They are to blame
I cannot do anything about it.
They did it to me, I couldn’t do anything.
They are wrong
I am right

Etc. These are all putting the response outside of you. You are no longer able to act and take charge of your life.

So what are you going to do to be more response able?
